COX gives a dealership of new or used vehicles a buyer file in minutes: identity read from the document, sanctions and PEP screening, origin of funds and payment method recorded, and a risk score that says when the sale needs a closer look, with the evidence kept for the regulator.
Where compliance hurts
- A buyer who pays in cash wants to leave with the car the same day
- The same customer buys several vehicles in a short period through different names
- Sellers of used cars bring vehicles whose ownership history nobody checked
- The sales team is not a compliance team and has no time for manual searches
- The notice to the regulator depends on a threshold that changes and on a file that was never opened
Who is obligated, country by country
The trade of new and used vehicles is a designated non-financial activity in most of the region: a vehicle is a high-value asset that is easy to resell, and the law asks the dealer to know the buyer and to report above certain amounts.
Panama
Law 23 of 2015 lists the companies that buy and sell new and used vehicles as non-financial obligated entities before the Superintendency of Non-Financial Subjects.
Mexico
The LFPIORPI names the sale of new or used land, sea and air vehicles as a vulnerable activity, with identification of the buyer and notices to the SAT above the threshold in force.
Colombia
Companies supervised by the Superintendency of Companies adopt SAGRILAFT by activity and size; vehicle trade is among the sectors it covers.
Guatemala
The IVE registers the persons who perform designated non-financial activities under the law against money laundering; check whether your activity is on the current list.
Dominican Republic
Law 155-17 defines the non-financial obligated entities that the Financial Analysis Unit supervises; a dealer with high-value sales should confirm its status.
Venezuela
The organic law against organized crime and terrorism financing sets prevention duties that the sector regulator specifies for high-value goods.
Thresholds and reporting deadlines change: the platform reads the ones in force for your company's regime. Confirm your status with your regulator.
Why they choose COX
As fast as the sale
The seller sends the buyer a link from the showroom; the file is ready before the paperwork is printed.
Payment and origin of funds
Amount, method, currency and origin of the funds recorded in the file, so the notice to the regulator has a source.
Repeat buyers detected
A customer who already has a file is recognized; the platform shows the previous purchases and their risk.
How It Works
Three steps from a new customer to a documented file
Collect
Send the customer a secure onboarding link. They upload their identity document, proof of address and source of funds from any device, and the platform reads the document for them.
- Document reading and prefill
- Selfie and liveness check
- Beneficial owner declaration
Verify
Sanctions, PEP and restrictive lists are searched at once, adverse media on request, and the risk matrix scores the customer with the weights your policy sets.
- Sanctions, PEP and watchlists
- Risk matrix by country and activity
- Enhanced due diligence when required
Document
Every search, decision and document stays in the file with its date and author. Print the due diligence report or the screening certificate when the regulator asks.
- Immutable audit trail
- Sealed PDF reports
- Renewal reminders
Red flags the file has to document
- Cash payments split into several deposits just under the reporting threshold
- A buyer who pays for a vehicle registered in the name of someone else
- Several high-value vehicles bought in a short period with no business reason
- A buyer with no visible income who does not explain the origin of the funds
- Immediate resale or export of the vehicle right after the purchase
